Chai Thai started the way a lot of good things do: by accident, under pressure, and with a big leap of faith
It all kicked off about six years ago when COVID flipped everything upside down. Chai didn’t get furloughed, and a long‑standing dream of being self‑employed suddenly became a now‑or‑never moment. Risky? Absolutely. Worth it? 100%.
Chai Thai started life in the family home kitchen, serving up proper Thai food for two years and building a loyal local following along the way. From there, it found a home at Kanteena, where Chai Thai now operates as a takeaway, serving bold, authentic dishes to the Kanteena crowd and the wider local community.
The food is rooted in tradition. Chai comes from a small town in the south of Thailand, where everything began in the kitchen with Chai’s mum. The recipes, flavours and techniques used today are the same ones passed down back then — just cooked fresh, fast and full of soul.
Bold flavours. Proper Thai food. No shortcuts. That’s Chai Thai at Kanteena.
